I am Dr. Felix Oguche, a registered professional engineer and Postdoctoral Fellow in the Division of Plant Science and Technology at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA. Originally from Kogi State, Nigeria, I hold a PhD in Biological Engineering from the University of Missouri, a Master of Engineering in Agricultural Environmental Management Engineering from the University of Debrecen, Hungary, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria.
My research lies at the intersection of agricultural robotics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, precision agriculture, embedded systems, and human-centered engineering. I am particularly interested in developing intelligent, autonomous, and sensor-driven technologies that improve agricultural productivity, operational efficiency, worker safety, and environmental sustainability.
My doctoral research focused on the design, development, and validation of ergonomic farming tools to enhance safety and efficiency. This work integrated human-centered design, biomechanical assessment, computer vision-based posture analysis, sensor technologies, and engineering optimization to evaluate and improve agricultural hand tools and mechanized equipment. Through experimental studies and prototype development, I investigated ways to reduce physical workload, improve operator comfort, and enhance the safety and usability of agricultural technologies.
My current research extends into autonomous agricultural robotic systems, AI-enabled livestock monitoring, intelligent sensing, precision navigation, and agricultural automation. I work on integrating robotics, machine learning, RGB-D cameras, LiDAR, GNSS, inertial sensors, wireless communication, and real-time control systems to develop practical solutions for crop and livestock production. My interests also include smart irrigation systems, agricultural Internet of Things (IoT), virtual fencing, remote sensing, and data-driven decision support systems.
Beyond research, I am passionate about teaching, mentorship, interdisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. I have contributed to teaching agricultural sensor and control technologies and Internet of Things applications, emphasizing experiential learning and the practical integration of hardware, software, and intelligent systems.
My long-term vision is to advance the development and adoption of accessible, intelligent, safe, and sustainable agricultural technologies that address real-world challenges facing farmers, agricultural workers, and food production systems. I am particularly committed to translating engineering research into practical innovations through collaborative research, technology development, education, and outreach.)
AgriSenseHub is an Optimized smart solution that can tell if the soil’s moisture and nutrient content is readily available to the crops considering other factors in the soil that affect the ability of crop roots to readily absorb inputs and use them efficiently for sustainable food production.
